Frequently Asked Questions & Resources
How can therapy help me?
A number of benefits are available from participating in therapy. I can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, grief, and stress management.
The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:
Decreasing your mental health symptoms of anxiety
Attaining a better understanding of yourself, your goals and values
Developing skills for improving your relationships
Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety
Managing anger, grief, depression, and other emotions
Improving communication and listening skills
Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones
Discovering new ways to solve problems
Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence
How would Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Help Me?
In simple terms, CBT focuses on the relationship between our thoughts, behaviors and emotions. By targeting either your behaviors or thoughts, the other two facets tend to follow. If someone tends to tell themselves they are worthless, it makes sense that over time they might start to feel worthless, and behave in ways that align with their thoughts and feelings. By exploring and rewriting your thoughts over time, lots of folks tend to feel and behave in new and different ways.
Do you take insurance, and how does that work?
Yes. I take Aetna and UnitedHealthcare. To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier, the first thing you should do is call them.
Check your coverage carefully and make sure you understand their answers. Some helpful questions you can ask them:
What are my mental health benefits?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
Is approval required from my primary care physician?
Schedule a consultation where I can provide other resources for you to better understand your potential copay.
What if I’m using Out-of-Network Benefits?
If I don’t accept your insurance, I can provide you with a superbill. You submit this bill to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Some questions to ask your insurance could be:
Do I have mental health/ behavioral health insurance benefits?
What are my out-of-network provider benefits for mental health services?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
What is my coverage amount per therapy session?
